Memorial Day is a day to make memories and remember those who died in service to our country. Originally, known as Decoration Day, it became a National holiday in 1971 when Congress passed the National Holiday Act. It is celebrated on the last Monday in May. There are many different ways you can honor these heroes in the Tampa Bay Area.

.

Tampa, Florida
Consider visiting the Spanish-American War Memorial at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. During the war, Tampa was used as a port for soldiers; as many as 30,000 soldiers passed through Tampa on their way to Cuba. There are approximately 100 warriors buried in this cemetery; consider bringing some American flags to decorate the site.

.

St. Petersburg, Florida
World War II is often known as Hitler’s War. Hundreds of thousands of American soldiers died during this war. The Florida Holocaust Museum is located in St. Petersburg, Florida on 5th Street. The museum offers a history of the Holocaust including the events that happened during World War II and the American involvement in the war.

.

Sarasota, Florida
If you prefer water over land, consider visiting the Sarasota/Venice coast where The Bayronto sank. This was a British freighter that had been torpedoed by the Germans. The ship was traveling from Texas with grain for the soldiers. The vessel is now a diving site filled with a tropical paradise.

Plan a family gathering and leave the driving to Ft. Myers Limo. Our Hummer H2 Limo can accommodate your entire gang. Make this a memorable Memorial day by including Ft. Myers Limo Service in your plans.
